Dressing a chair?!
Granted, at first glance looks quite odd... but in actual fact the essence of the workshop produces very sane outcomes. As previous and working in pairs, 'borrow' as many chairs as desired and using the jackets from the previous deconstruction class or new ones if preffered begin 'dressing' the chair sculpture.
Keeping the jacket in larger proportions to begin with is more beneficial, e.g flat sleeve, back and fronts.
Once happy take the sculpture off the chairs and transfer onto a mannequin, using minimal pinning to create less rentered shapes.
FROM CHAIR TO MANNEQUIN......

To say this was our first attempt i feel it was one of the most successful outcomes of the day, it has the feel of an intended ready made garment, with the more fitted top and oversized skirt, i love unconventional shape of the right shoulder.
These two designs above are very similar and although i think they were successful in the respect that neither look like they were originally tailored jackets both to me seem overly busy, lacking any structure and too many variations of colour.
I do however like the detailing of buttons and pockets throughout.

In contrast, i love this!... This design came about by simply flipping the whole structure on its head, the green jacket has a cape feel about it and the conjoining jackets and has the feel of a development in my sketchbook from last week, i would love to interpret this into my final structure.
This idea above worked for me not because
of the jackets themselves but because of the negative space
the jackets create, this was a new concept that i'd not considered before...
The shoulder detail is my favourite part of the above, the ruffled layers work really well as a detail on there own but work with the rest of the garment in creating shape through it all.
We decided to mix it up abit, as we felt as though our ideas were running flat, instead of labouring over creating shapes we used a faster pace, giving ourselves 30 seconds then photographing the outcome, (above).
Finally, we changed and used a higher chair/stool, to see if this would give us a different outcome.
As the day progressed each outcome slower became more successful than the last, from the above i particularly like the far left.
By far the two above are my most favourite, i think they are brilliant!
The relaxed feel to the left one, with the
Whilst the right piece is in far contrast with the tight fitting around the body to show off the kimono feel sleeve, again clever detailing of the buttons, make the sleeve and centre detailing.
Below shows off both pieces in more details, i love the oriental feel!...
All in all busy day!
