Glue and Cloth Workshop-
Art attack lovers prepare to be excited....
To take part at home you are going to need: Pva glue, Nylon tights(of any variation), Mutton cloth and Clingfilm.
Firstly, get into groups of three, steal yourself a number of interesting chairs to become the core of your unrecognisable sculpture, for ours we chose three of varying size, standing a tall one up as normal, entwining another around its base and balancing the final chair precariously on the top (which is an art-form in itself!).
Wrap your clingfilm around the entire sculpture to within an inch of its life, this protecting the chairs but also securing your sculpture.
Now for the fun.... wrap, twist, stretch, weave and tie your mutton cloth and tights over, around and through your chair sculpture. Continue until your happy with your creation and a majority of the chairs are covered. We chose to combine mutton cloth with black, neutral and electric blue tights, this gave more depth and created more shadows.
Stretching the materials formed naturals pulls, holes and ladders in the materials, using varying colours helped show off these intricate details more precisely. Using the colour blocking also began to give us a base colour palette to work with when creating design development.
Using 2 parts water to 1 part pva saturate the fabrics, when dried this will create the hardened, solid shell that will be transferred to the mannequin at a later date.
This session helped to show how shapes can be created and taken from anywhere and when put onto the form they can transform into innovative, original garment ideas.
