EXPLORE CREATIVITY - 25/10/11

Deconstructing a men's tailored jacket....

  1. Locate a mens tailored jacket - i chose a tweed design as i felt a plain one wouldn't show my experimentation as clearly.
  2. Pick through the stitching until your left with the jacket shell and the inside lining.
  3. Begin experimenting with the inside lining, i concentrated on making quick simple shapes with minimal pins.
  4. Continue to do the same with the outer part of the jacket.
From This....

'Play With Shapes'

 MODU GRAM

Definately worth checking out! -  http://liannasheppard.blogspot.com/
Love these collections! The 'play with shapes' collection is possibly my favourite, the combination of draped fabrics against the harsher, sharp lines of the shoulders compiment each other really well, the intelligent splashed of colour show this off to it best.
Both collections i feel some up the essence of the workshops we have been taking part in, i would my final garment to have this kind of feel.

Stephane Rolland
Spring/Summer 11 Haute Couture Collection

Using a mix of classic, luxurious fabrics with original pattern cuts is why i love this collection, taking a classic piece and giving it an innovative twist.

Tine De Ruysser

This is part of Belgian designers Phd collection which focuses on fusing metal and origami to produce wearable pieces. Tine De Ruysser who studied at the Royal College of Art made this cape along with other wearable pieces using copper and polyester combined in a geometric folding pattern

Glue and Cloth Workshop - On the Stand

Now that our structure had finally dried, we began by forcibly cutting it from the chairs, trying to keep its hardened shape as much as possible. The aim of putting it onto the stand was more about letting the sculpture do the work for us and not over working it.

Recent Graduate of Westminster - I thought this depicted what we were trying to create in the stand workshop.

The above 4 ideas reminded me of bones and bone structures as well as the human body, this was the inspiration for this sketchbook page.

We wanted to see how our sculpture fitted onto the human body and how well it moved when walked in, sophia happily modelled!

Without planning an outcome it allowed more creative ideas to come to the forefront.

TEXTILE SCULPTORS

Rowan Mersh

Graduate of the Royal College of Art mersh is a textile based sculptor that fuses concept with experimentation

These are 2 experiments i produced in my sketchbook, replicating mersh's work, I used empty thread reels and pennys encased in tights to create texture and shape.

Katy Heinlein

Graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas Heinlein creates simple theatrical sculptures using movement and tension, using the fluidity of fabric combined with the restraints of straps.

I thought these designers linked in well with the recent glue and cloth workshops in creating unusual shapes from a variety of materials.
